Printing and Dog Walks: a weekend combination
Monday, May 28th, 2007This past Saturday we were invited to Northwest Animal Companions’ (NAC) first annual dog walk. It was a really great warm, but not too warm, day to have a booth outside. We brought our educational materials and our adoptable bulletin board, but didn’t need to bring a whole lot else for this event. In a way, it’s a nice change not to pack tubs full of things with us. There were quite a few people there and it seemed like everyone was in a really great mood. It was so beautiful it was hard to not enjoy it. We met some new vets, talked with a few groups we knew, and we won a few raffle prizes. Sandon (my son) won a really cool wooden BSU bouncy horse that he loves to play on. It was really cute, and although we aren’t really BSU fans, Sandon will probably become one since he’s going to grow up in the area.
On other fronts, Bill and I finally had some time to go pick out the printer/scanner/fax we were given grant money for (last year!!). We picked up a really nice one with a great rebate and it should last a long time. Now we don’t have to rely on me being able to get into the office to print off a document we need. We can print adoptable information on the fly and scan and fax documents to other shelters when needed. The goal of today is to set it up and get it all put together. The first copy is going to be the receipt so we can send the original off for the rebate– how is that for incentive?
The shelter is down to 8 ferrets right now, which is a very decent number. Five of these are older or have some meds to take, and then two of the others are a little on the nippy side. Most of our adopters have been families with smaller children lately.
Our next big event is the Ferret Symposium in Portland. This is the weekend-long educational event for the major ferret vets in the country, shelters, and enthusiast. New products are usually released at this event, new veterinary information presented, and all around anything new in the education department. It has always been a lot of fun and networking is really quite priceless. We will stay with Chris & Dave at the Oregon Ferret Shelter and Sam, their daughter, will watch Sandon during the day. Cathy & Paul will be coming too, so it should be really fun.
Have a great day!
