We got a call yesterday from Canyon County AC that five ferrets in “real bad shape” came in. One was described as “naked” so I assumed some adrenal issues. We’ve had people, organizations, etc. tell us the ferrets were in bad shape before, but usually they are just a little orange, scrawny and somewhat naked. These ferrets, if it had not been for our connection and partnership with Canyon County, would have been put down. Mats in their hair–old, very old mats, Feces and urine burns, bony, partially blind, rotten teeth on some, long-term adrenal on a few, and still.. .so very loving. I washed each one and cut as many mats out of their hair as I could. Washed the feces off of their faces, arms, bellies, backs and tails. Watched them eat 6 oz of food in less than 4 hours and then filled the bowl back up.the ones without cataracts, they squint from the indoor lighting. One little guy has a very large tumor and was so weak before he arrived, he couldn’t walk. He’s moving around some now. They all pile together for comfort.
One of the saddest things is that the little blaze boy has a microchip from a shelter. Someone who signed a contract vowing to care, love, and return this ferret if they couldn’t keep him let this happent. I promise.. it said. Legal contract it stated. For any reason……..

I’m waiting for the shelter to contact me with more information on this little boy, so that I can at least give him his name back: His body weight and hair he’s going to need to wait a little longer to get that reinstated.
They are all clean, fed, and in cozy bedding now. The albinos are no longer beige.
