Shelter improvements — photos finally!
Monday, August 17th, 2009Well it’s been a busy month since we moved into the new house and shelter. We’re still trying to get everything organized and into place, but I think we’re doing a good job so far. I’ve taken a few pictures, and yes you’ll see some of the clutter still remaining, but there’s promise in these photos for sure!
This is me leaving the shelter and walking to the house at night.. Bill and I do this a lot as we usually are out there until dark.
Here is the new keypad doorknob/lock we put in last week, It allows up to 6 codes and will autolock behind someone, Beats fumbling for keys!
The desk we ordered on clearance arrived and I spent way too long putting it together in the dark hours of the night. It isn’t where it will finally rest in this photo, but you can see it is space saving for sure. The middle flips down for computer use, but it is safe. We can put a lock on here too in the future, should we need to keep data secure (although cloud computing may do that for us!)
The new blinds arrived. They aren’t the prettiest decor on the planet, but they fit the windows, were lovingly installed by a volunteer (THANK YOU!) and they do what they are supposed to, block the light and help with the heat. You can see in the photo there is much organizing left to do on the administrative side of the shelter.
Painting! We painted the 1/2 door crazy-@$$ red. It’s loud, it’s shiny and it screams — “You better not forget to shut me!!!” It’s hard to ignore a blaring red door unless you’re colorblind, then we’ll forgive you. I had a big can in the garage as our front door is this color only it isn’t so loud because it has faded with time. White trim is still left to paint, buy it is a very good start and something that has been bothering me for weeks because it wasn’t finished. Hooray for paint! And if the crazy red turns out to be too loud, we can always paint bathroom barn red.
After I took the photos, I proceeded to move some things around. The for sale shelving is now back to back with the desk. The quarantine kids are against the front little window (now we have blinds, we can use that wall without temperature being an issue) and The whiteboard has been hung!
Once the magic white board goes up, it starts to feel like things are coming together. At least until I see the bathroom in the photo which is still on the list of organization and usability improvements. It’s coming together and if life would stop getting in the way, it could be complete by October!
