Southwest Idaho natives will have their first chance to show their ferret at an American Ferret Association Sanctioned show this summer at Gem County Fairgrounds in Emmett, Idaho July 12th. Three Championship level classes as well as 13 specialty rings.
Ferret shows are similar to cat shows, with ferrets judged on their health and personality. Some rings are based on a ferret's color, and some on physical characteristics. Every ferret entered into a specialty class wins a ribbon and the top 10 of three rings in the championship classes wins a ribbon! Fun events will also be hosted, such the tube run and ferret 'bowling' to really show off their playful personalities.
There are few requirements, such as up-to-date vaccinations and ADV testing, but with your paperwork, any ferret owner is welcome to register and participate. You can ask your local ferret shelter to help you with the ADV testing or a vet referral for vaccinations.
There is still time to enter -- the entry deadline is June 15th. For a show packet on how to enter, an explanation of the different rings offered, and medical requirements: Click here to download the show packet. email info@emmettferret.org, or call 208-398-8244. Ferrets paperwork will be checked at the door, for the safety of all the participants, so please leave non-registered ferrets at home.
Admission is free to the public, so if you don't have a ferret and are interested in seeing what pet ferrets and the show is like, please stop by! Private breeders, pet owners, and shelters will be attending. You'll have a chance to see angoras, pedigrees, kits, and even ferrets that are over 5lbs! There will be auctions, educational information, adoption information, and raffle items that range from artwork, to ferret supplies and gift certificates. The show starts at 9 for show entrants and 10 for the public, and it ends at 4 for the public and runs until finish for those showing.
